South Africa pick tried and tested players for Pakistan tour and Women’s ODI WC

South Africa Picks Experienced Team for Pakistan Tour and 2025 Women’s Cricket World Cup

South Africa has announced its cricket squad for upcoming matches in Pakistan and the big 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup. The team focuses on experience and consistency, giving returning players a chance to shine on the world stage.

Led by captain Laura Wolvaardt, the 15-player squad includes familiar stars such as Chloe Tryon, Marizanne Kapp, Ayabonga Khaka, and Sune Luus. These seasoned players bring leadership and skill, ensuring South Africa is well-prepared for important tournaments.

The team features powerful batter Tazmin Brits and all-rounders like Nadine de Klerk, Anneke Bosch, Annerie Dercksen, and Nondumiso Shangase. In wicketkeeping, Sinalo Jafta will be joined by 17-year-old Karabo Meso, who is set to make her first appearance in a senior World Cup.

South Africa’s bowling attack will be led by left-arm spinner Nonkululeko Mlaba. Fast bowlers Masabata Klaas and Tumi Sekhukhune will provide additional options with the ball. Young all-rounder Miane Smit has been named as the travel reserve, a role she also held during last year’s ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, where South Africa finished as runners-up.

South Africa head coach Mandla Mashimbyi expressed pride in the team’s journey. "From the moment I joined the team, we worked hard towards this. We believe our squad can make South Africa proud at the World Cup. Now, it’s all about carrying that confidence onto the field."

The team will start their World Cup campaign on October 3 in India, playing against England. They will also face strong teams like New Zealand, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan. The league will end with a match against Australia on October 25.

Before the World Cup, South Africa will travel to Lahore, Pakistan, for a three-match ODI series scheduled for September 16, 19, and 22. These matches will help the team prepare for the big tournament ahead.

CSA selectors emphasized that the squad was chosen based on a strong and consistent selection process, considering conditions in the subcontinent and the need for a balanced team. Clinton du Preez, CSA Convenor of Selectors, congratulated all the players: “This is a special opportunity for these players. Their hard work over the past three years has earned them a spot at the Women’s Cricket World Cup — an honor few get in their careers.”
