Sri Lankan golfer N. Thangaraja keeps his hot streak alive at the Bengaluru Open 2025. After a flawless second round, he shot a six‑under‑65 to climb to the top of the leaderboard and secure a one‑shot lead. The tournament, worth INR 1 crore, is being played at the Karnataka Golf Association course in Bengaluru.

After two days, Thangaraja’s total is 11‑under 131 (66–65). He edges out Viraj Madappa from Kolkata, who finished at 10‑under 132 with a 67 in the second round. Gurugram’s Manu Gandas posts a tournament‑best 63, winning third place at nine‑under 133.

Last‑night’s co‑leader, Nepal’s Subash Tamang, fell to tied‑fourth with an 8‑under 134 after a 69. Saptak Talwar from Greater Noida joins him in fourth. The reigning champion, Abhinav Lohan of Gurugram, ends day two at tied‑11th, five‑under 137.

Bengaluru locals Manoj S. and Mari Muthu R. tie for 13th, both at four‑under 138. The cut line sits at one‑over 143, with fifty professionals and one amateur advancing. Noida’s Kanav Chauhan is the sole amateur to make the cut, finishing tied‑24th at two‑under 140.

Thangaraja admitted his back‑nine had a slow start, hitting three birdies and two bogeys. His front‑nine, however, sparked the turnaround with six birdies and a single bogey. He highlighted his bunker play, a key factor during the day.

“We hit our tee shots, approaches, and putts well today,” he said. “The bunkers stood out, and the greens feel similar to my home course in Colombo. I’ll focus on putting in the final stages because it’s the biggest deciding factor.”

He added he’s riding a momentum surge since his Chennai win three weeks ago and is eager to finish strong.

Viraj Madappa, who captured a PGTI title earlier this year, recorded six birdies on the front 16 holes but closed with a double‑bogey on the 17th. “Both days, I kept my patience and hit good iron shots,” he explained. “I hit 13 greens in regulation and need to sustain that through the rest of the week.”
