BFI forced to reschedule Elite National Boxing due to pollution norms in North India

New Delhi, Dec 10 (LatestNewsX) – The Boxing Federation of India announced that the 9th Elite National Boxing Championships for men and women, originally slated for Dec 31 2025 to Jan 6 2026 at Gautam Buddha University in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, have been pushed back.

Due to the government‑mandated pollution control restrictions that run through Dec 31 2025, the event will now take place from Jan 4 to Jan 10 2026 at the same venue, the federation said in a statement.

None of the other logistical details have changed, and the federation said it will publish further updates shortly.

This will be the first occasion on which the federation holds both the men’s and women’s national championships simultaneously, allowing India’s top senior athletes to compete under one roof.

When the rescheduled edition launches, the Services squad will enter as the reigning men’s national champions, while the Railways side will aim to keep their title in the women’s team event.

“Units from across the country will compete across ten weight categories each for men and women, in full compliance with World Boxing Technical & Competition Rules. Each unit is permitted to field one boxer per category, with no reserves allowed. Eligible boxers must be born between January 1 1985, and December 31 2006,” the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) said in a release.

All bouts will follow the standard international format of three three‑minute rounds, with one‑minute breaks and the 10‑point must scoring system.

Many of India’s brightest boxers, who later topped the World Boxing Cup Finals, began their careers at previous nationals. Sachin Siwach and Hitesh Gulia, both World Cup champions, first earned national titles here, as did Minakshi and Jaismine, the current World Champions, who also made their mark at the national championships.

With the international calendar marching toward the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic cycle, the 9th Elite National Boxing Championship remains the gateway for India’s elite boxing program.
