Bopanna, Rybakina, Medvedev & Kyrgios to headline World Tennis League’s India debut in Bengaluru

Bengaluru, India – The World Tennis League (WTL) will play host to its first Indian event next month, kicking off a four‑day tournament in Bengaluru from December 17 to 20. Matches will take place at the SM Krishna Tennis Stadium, a venue owned and run by the Karnataka State Lawn Tennis Association.

The league’s new edition keeps the high‑octane spirit of the WTL alive, drawing a mix of world‑class stars and homegrown talent. Among the confirmed players are world No. 2 Daniil Medvedev, Australian Nick Kyrgios, Belarusian Elena Rybakina, Spain’s Paula Badosa, India’s own Rohan Bopanna, France’s Gaël Monfils, young Frenchman Arthur Fils, India’s Sumit Nagal, Polish Magda Linette and Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk.

Indian supporters will see a handful of local favorites compete alongside the stars, including Yuki Bhambri, Ankita Raina, Shrivalli Bhamidipaty, Maaya Revathi, Dhakshineswar Suresh and Shivika Burman. The presence of home players is expected to spark new interest in tennis across the country.

“The WTL format is fresh and fast, and it brings world‑class tennis to fans who might not usually see it,” said Mahesh Bhupathi, co‑founder of the league and former 12‑time Grand Slam champion. “Seeing top players share courts with India’s best will inspire a new generation of athletes.”

Elena Rybakina, a top‑five player, welcomed the opportunity to play in India. “I’m excited about the tennis culture here, and I can’t wait to play in this unique format with my teammates,” she added.

The event is also an opportunity for India to showcase its ability to host premium sporting spectacles. Krishnan Kannan, Managing Director of Iconik Sports and Events, said the tournament will go beyond tennis, featuring culture, entertainment and community engagement.

Fans across the city— and the rest of India—can expect a lively blend of elite competition, local pride and a celebration of tennis as a global sport. With the world’s attention now on Bengaluru, the WTL India debut promises to boost India’s profile on the international tennis stage and leave a lasting impact on the sport’s future in the country.
