In a special meeting at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, Mahantesh G. Kivadasannavar, chairman of the Cricket Association for the Blind in India (CABI), shared exciting details with President Droupadi Murmu about the upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup for Blind Cricket. This groundbreaking tournament marks the first of its kind and runs from November 11 to 25 this year.
Joining Mahantesh was Meenakashi Lekhi, a former parliament member, ex-minister of state for external affairs and culture, and the chairperson of the event’s organizing committee. The two leaders highlighted how this event spotlights visually impaired women cricketers from around the world, promoting inclusion and resilience in sports.
India and Sri Lanka are teaming up to co-host the Women’s T20 World Cup for Blind Cricket, with matches spread across New Delhi, Bengaluru, and Colombo. Expect action from top teams including Australia, England, India, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and the USA. The schedule features 21 league games, two semifinals, and a thrilling final.
Mahantesh called the chat with the President a real honor. "It was a privilege to meet her and share the story of this landmark event that celebrates inclusion, courage, and the unbreakable spirit of visually impaired women cricketers everywhere," he said.
Meenakashi echoed the sentiment, praising the President’s support. "She’s an inspiration for all women, and especially-abled athletes are so thankful for her backing on this journey," she added.
Organizers recently announced that if Pakistan makes it to the final, the big showdown will happen in Colombo to ensure smooth arrangements for all involved.
This tournament builds on India’s shining moment two years back, when the Indian women’s blind cricket team crushed Australia in the finals to grab gold at the 2023 IBSA World Games. Now, with the global spotlight on home turf, these players are geared up to deliver bold, fearless cricket and make more history.
