‘Can’t express what I feel, it was incredible’: Pratika Rawal on India’s historic WC title win

Pratika Rawal watched her team lift the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup trophy in front of a roaring crowd in Navi Mumbai after India’s 52‑run win over South Africa. The 24‑year‑old made the ground in a wheelchair, her ankle injury ruling her out of the final match.

Raw Al, who had scored 308 runs in the tournament before her injury, said the moment was beyond words. “It feels surreal to be here with my team,” she told reporters. “I love this team, and we did it! The flag on my shoulder means so much. Watching every wicket, every boundary gave me goosebumps. It was hard to watch, but it was better than playing.”

India’s victory marked the first women’s World Cup win by an Indian side in decades. Shafali Verma replaced Rawal in the final and delivered an explosive 87, helping India score 298 for 7 in 50 overs. In South Africa’s innings, a pressure‑filled start kept the Proteas on the back foot until Deepti Sharma snapped five wickets for 39. That breakthrough turned the game when South Africa fell from 209 for 5 to all out for 246.

South Africa’s captain, Laura Wolvaardt, made a brilliant century, but India’s bowlers stayed fearless. Shafali Verma and Sree Charani also claimed crucial wickets, sealing the match and the historic trophy for India.

The win celebrates India’s strong cricketing future and highlights stars like Shafali Verma and Deepti Sharma. It also underscores the resilience of players like Pratika Rawal, who, despite injury, remains a proud part of the championship team.
