London, Oct 18 – Crystal Palace’s long‑time captain, 25‑year‑old England defender Marc Guehi, has said he will leave the club when his contract ends this season. Club manager Oliver Glasner confirmed the decision after Guehi declined a new deal offered by the club.
The Welsh‑born centre‑back negotiated his last contract until June 2025, but everything ended up at the club’s door. “They offered Marc a new contract, but he said, ‘No, I want to make something different,’ and that’s normal,” Glasner said.

Palace now faces a tough choice: try to sell Guehi in January or risk losing him for free next summer. The manager stressed that discussions are still in progress. “It’s how we can deal with this situation. (What) is the best way to get this next step done? And that’s all about how we are talking together,” he added.

Since moving to Crystal Palace from Chelsea in 2021, Guehi has been one of the Premier League’s most dependable centre‑backs. He has featured in 167 games for the London club and is respected across the league for his solidity at the back. He last season stayed ever‑present, playing all 12 matches in all competitions and helped the Royals climb to sixth place.

A high‑profile move to Liverpool was on track this summer, with Guehi reportedly passing a medical ahead of a £35 million transfer. Palace pulled the plug on deadline day after an offer for Brighton defender Igor Julio collapsed. The deal ended, and the defender stayed loyal to his club.

But Marc’s reputation continues to grow. Reports suggest that Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich may also be eyeing his signature in January, with Liverpool still a potential suitor.
Guehi earned his 26th England cap earlier this month in a 3‑0 friendly win over Wales. He said he sees a clear path to a place in the 2026 World Cup squad, even if he remains at the Emirates for the rest of the campaign.

In the end, Crystal Palace will need to decide whether to catch a quick profit from the defender or hold out for a free transfer next season. The club’s summer targets are already taking shape as fans and critics watch the next chapter of Guehi’s career unfold.
