On Thursday, the International Table Tennis Federation Mixed Team World Cup in Chengdu saw China continue their streak by clinching back‑to‑back wins against South Korea and France.
In individual play, Wang Manyu dispatched Lee Eun‑hye with straight sets—11‑7, 11‑7, 11‑8—while world number one Wang Chuqin secured a flawless 11‑9, 11‑4 victory over An Jae‑hyun, rounding out the team’s 8‑0 triumph, according to Xinhua. “My teammates had a great start, which relieved the pressure on me. An also performed well, but I managed to take the win with fewer mistakes,” Wang Chuqin remarked after his match.
Later, China faced France on home turf, where the French squad’s dominance was tested by Felix Lebrun. China has yet to suffer a defeat in the tournament.
In the mixed‑doubles round, Wang Chuqin and Sun Yingsha overcame Alexis Lebrun and Yuan Jianan 11‑7, 12‑10, 11‑5, while Wang Manyu eased past Prithika Pavade 11‑9, 12‑10, 11‑2. After a strong comeback, Lebrun knocked Liang Jingkun out 13‑11, 11‑7. The team then sealed a 8‑2 win by defeating the French pair in men’s doubles, 11‑9. “In front of difficulties, we still need to keep focused and be patient to forge ahead,” Wang Manyu said.
Other nations also competed on Thursday: Hong Kong edged Sweden 8‑6 before falling to South Korea 8‑5, and Germany comfortably beat Croatia 8‑1, only to lose 8‑3 to Japan.
The competition follows a best‑of‑15 format: each tie begins with mixed doubles, followed by women’s singles and men’s singles, with the order of the remaining doubles matches decided by the captain of the lower‑seeded team. The round‑robin’s second stage will resume on Friday, with China set to face Germany and South Korea scheduled to challenge Japan.
