Indian badminton star P.V. Sindhu delivered a stunning performance at the China Masters Super 750 in Shenzhen, powering into the quarterfinals with a straight-sets win over Thailand’s Pornpawee Chochuwong. The two-time Olympic medallist triumphed 21-15, 21-15 in just 41 minutes, showcasing her sharpest form of the season.
This victory means a lot for Sindhu. It marks her first win against Chochuwong in two years—she had lost their last two meetings, including one at the Indonesia Open this year. But on Thursday, Sindhu stayed in complete control, holding a steady lead in both games and never letting her rival take charge.
“I’m happy with the win,” Sindhu said after the match. “I focused on staying alert right from the start, giving my all, and avoiding silly errors.” She added that wrapping up the match in straight sets isn’t just about saving energy—it’s key to building momentum and boosting confidence.
Sindhu knows badminton can be unpredictable, though. “You have to prepare for those long battles no matter what,” she noted. “Stay quick on your feet every time, win or lose the early games.”
This top-10 scalp is Sindhu’s second in a month, after beating Japan’s Tomoka Miyazaki at the China Open and China’s Wang Zhiyi at the World Championships. It also lands her in her first World Tour quarterfinal since January 2025.
Sindhu’s run in Shenzhen has been impressive so far. She followed her dominant 21-5, 21-10 opening-round win over Denmark’s Julie Jakobsen with this composed display. Next up in the PV Sindhu quarterfinals? A tough challenge against world No. 1 An Se Young from South Korea, who has beaten her every single time they’ve met. Can Sindhu turn the tables? Badminton fans are watching closely!
