Australian cricket star Chris Lynn has locked in a full-season contract with the Adelaide Strikers for the upcoming Big Bash League (BBL). This deal guarantees his presence throughout the entire BBL campaign, including the finals.
The 35-year-old opener is set for his fourth straight season with the team. He just wrapped up a stunning performance in England’s T20 Blast, smashing an unbeaten 108 runs off only 51 balls—complete with 11 massive sixes—to lead Hampshire to a semi-final win over Northamptonshire.
“I’m excited to return to Adelaide Oval and push the Strikers deep into the finals this year,” Lynn said in a statement. “We’ve built an awesome squad, and I can’t wait to hit the field starting December 17.”
Lynn has never finished a full BBL season with the Strikers before. His earlier deals were short-term, letting him jet off to the ILT20 tournament in the UAE. Last summer, a hamstring injury sidelined him after just seven games, forcing him to miss the final two matches.
Things look different now. With the ILT20 shifting to early December, more international stars like Lynn should stick around for the BBL’s later rounds, helping teams chase playoff success.
Strikers head coach Tim Paine couldn’t hide his excitement. “We’re pumped to have Chris back as we aim for a strong finals run,” he said. “Everyone knows his explosive batting, but his experience and leadership mean so much to our young players. Strikers fans, join me in welcoming him home to Adelaide Oval—we’re eager for what he brings to BBL|15.”
The team has been busy reshaping its roster. They recently signed Jason Sangha and Mackenzie Harvey, while waving goodbye to Jake Weatherald, who joined the Hobart Hurricanes, and Brendan Doggett, now with the Melbourne Renegades.
Adding to the overseas firepower, England all-rounder Jamie Overton will join the Strikers. He’s taking an indefinite break from red-ball cricket, which opens the door for him to play the full BBL season and likely benches him from England’s Ashes squad.
