The Uttarakhand Premier League (UPL) finished its final clash in Dehradun on Sunday, drawing the spotlight on local cricket and a growing push for women’s participation.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister praises the league
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami attended the men’s final and praised the UPL for giving women a platform to shine. Speaking in Dehradun, Dhami said he was “delighted” that the Uttarakhand Cricket Association is promoting women players and that four women’s teams performed brilliantly in the September 23‑26 tournament. He added his confidence that more women in the league will become a milestone for the state’s cricket future.
Men’s final: Nainital Tigers vs. Haridwar Elmas
In the men’s title match, the Nainital Tigers set a target of 148/6, led by top scorers S Dangwal (52) and B Lalwani (35). Haridwar Elmas’s bowler P Bhati finished with figures of 2/16. In the chase, K Chandela opened with a quick 33 off 19 balls. M Uzair Malik stole the match with 22 in 13 balls, hitting two sixes, and S Gupta finished strongly, also 15 in five balls. Haridwar finished on target, securing the win with four wickets and four balls to spare.
Women’s final: Haridwar Storms vs. Tehri Queens
The women’s final was held on September 26. Tehri Queens outplayed Haridwar Storms, chasing a target of 100 to win by seven wickets. The victory highlights the progress and competitiveness of women’s cricket in Uttarakhand.
