Conor McGregor is gearing up for a massive comeback in the UFC, and it’s set to happen right at the White House.
The Irish superstar, who recently stepped back from his bid for the Irish presidency, shared the exciting news on Fox News this week. Speaking with Sean Hannity, McGregor said his return to the octagon is locked in for the UFC’s biggest event ever—timed to celebrate America’s 250th birthday next year. “Done deal, signed, delivered,” he declared. “McGregor will compete in the White House for America’s 250th birthday.”
This blockbuster UFC White House card is tentatively planned for June, and McGregor has his sights set high. He previously mentioned wanting a whopping $100 million payday plus 100 golden visas as his reward for stepping into the cage there.
Former UFC heavyweight champ Jon Jones was pushing hard for the main spot, but it looks like the promotion is betting big on McGregor to headline this spectacle. It’s no surprise—McGregor’s star power could make it unforgettable.
Fans have waited a long time for this. McGregor hasn’t fought since July 2021, when he suffered a brutal leg injury against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264. His left tibia and fibula snapped in a moment that shocked the MMA world. That fight also drew a famous spectator: then-President Donald Trump, who showed up to support McGregor.
Since then, McGregor has faced setbacks outside the ring too. He pulled out of a scheduled 2024 bout against Michael Chandler after breaking a toe in training. And in July, a civil court found him liable in a sexual assault case, adding to his legal challenges.
A White House UFC fight isn’t just about McGregor’s return—it’s a game-changer for the sport. The event is expected to air on CBS as part of the UFC’s new $7.7 billion broadcast deal with CBS and Paramount+, a huge step up from their old ESPN partnership. This card likely helped seal that massive agreement.
But pulling it off won’t be easy. UFC President Dana White revealed that the octagon weighs so much it’ll require replacing the grass on the White House’s South Lawn—potentially costing the promotion around $700,000.
McGregor’s recent White House visit in March adds to the buzz. He met with President Trump, chatted with reporters in the James S. Brady Press Briefing Room, and exchanged friendly words. It seems like the perfect setup for his epic UFC return.
