Pune, Dec 13 (LatestNewsX) – India is on the brink of a landmark event: it will host the first UCI 2.2 Pune Grand Tour 2026, a Continental Men’s Team Elite Road Cycling Race. Taking place from January 19 to 23, the race will open the international cycling calendar with four exciting stages that are expected to draw a global crowd.
Organizers anticipate 28 elite teams from around the world, including four premier national squads. India will field two teams, “India A” and “India B.”
The concept for the Pune Grand Tour was developed by the Pune District Administration and is strongly supported by the Government of Maharashtra. The four‑stage, 437‑km route will weave through Pune’s bustling city life, historic landmarks, and the surrounding scenic countryside, offering both high‑level competition and a showcase for the region’s tourism, environmental initiatives, and infrastructure improvements.
“We are extremely happy and honoured to see the magnitude of the world’s response for the inaugural year of Pune Grand Tour. Major cycling countries like the United Kingdom, France, Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands, Australia, China, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, etc, have shown keen interest with many having confirmed participation,” said Jitendra Dudi (IAS), Collector Pune District and Officer In‑charge of Pune Grand Tour.
“Union Cycliste Internationale is very keen to help promote the sport in India. This is Pune’s moment to establish itself as an international cycling destination, and we are confident to deliver a world‑class event,” he added.
