Delhi Capitals Opens First Canadian Academy, Expanding Its Global Footprint
New Delhi, Dec. 26 – Delhi Capitals’ cricket academy is taking its worldwide outreach a step further by launching a new centre in Mississauga, Ontario. The move marks the franchise’s first footprint in North America and underscores its commitment to growing the sport from the ground up.
The Mississauga facility will bring the franchise’s proven high‑performance training model to one of the fastest‑growing cricket markets outside of India. It will implement Delhi Capitals’ coaching curriculum and technical framework, offering young players a structured pathway that includes training sessions, performance monitoring, and long‑term development plans. The academy is scheduled to host trial sessions and talent‑scouting programs in January 2026, with full training schedules beginning shortly thereafter.
“This launch in Canada is a key milestone in building a sustainable, global development network,” said Delhi Capitals CEO Sunil Gupta. “Cricket participation and infrastructure is booming in North America, and the academy will extend our coaching philosophy and performance tools to this emerging community. We are focused on creating clear pathways, sharing best practices, and supporting young cricketers who aspire to reach the highest levels.”
Derek Perera, Founder and Director of the Ontario Cricket Academy, welcomed the partnership. “Our academy has always focused on developing players through structure, discipline, and long‑term plans,” he said. “With more than 20 years of producing Canadian representatives, joining forces with Delhi Capitals is a natural next step. This collaboration opens doors for Canadian talent to connect with global standards, elite environments, and real opportunities.”
Delhi Capitals already operates an academy in London, England, and now solidifies its international network with a second hub outside India. The franchise’s expansion reflects its ambition to provide elite coaching environments worldwide while remaining accessible and inclusive.
Beyond its academies, Delhi Capitals competes in India’s premier T20 leagues— the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the Women’s Premier League (WPL). Co‑owned by the GMR Group and the JSW Group, the club began as Delhi Daredevils in 2008, rebranded in 2019, and reached its first IPL final in 2020. In the WPL, the team has made the finals in all three editions to date, finishing as runners‑up each time.
