Virat Kohli was welcomed back to his favourite Australian venue, Adelaide Oval, as India faced Australia in the second ODI of their series. The South Australian Cricket Association (SACA) shared a warm video on X, celebrating the return of one of cricket’s most celebrated hitters.
Kohli had retired from T20Is and Test cricket, but he made his comeback for the first ODI after the July 2024 Champions Trophy win. Adelaide Oval has been a lucky field for him for years. He scored his first Test century at the ground in 2011‑12 and has already piled up 975 runs in 12 international matches—the most by an Indian there.
During the practice session, SACA posted a clip of Kohli walking onto the field. In the background, his own post‑match speech floated over his familiar voice. The message read:
> “One of cricket’s true icons, Virat Kohli returns to his beloved ground—training here for what may be his final appearance in international colours at Adelaide Oval.”
>
> “It has been an honour and a privilege to welcome one of the greatest to ever grace the game. Thank you, Virat, for the memories, the magic, and the moments that will live on in the hearts of South Australians and cricket fans worldwide.”
>
> “You’ll always be welcome at Adelaide Oval. Don’t be a stranger, mate.”
The series marks India’s last ODI tour of Australia before the 2027 World Cup, making the upcoming match another chance for Kohli to cement his legacy on Australian ground.
Kohli batted in the first ODI but ended with a duck on Australian soil. He now heads to the second ODI on Thursday, hoping to add to his impressive record at the Oval. If he scores 19 or more runs, he will surpass former captain MS Dhoni’s tally of 262 runs in 50‑over matches at Adelaide. At present, Dhoni tops the list for Indians, but Kohli’s 244 runs in four Games put him close to the mark.
For cricket fans and casual readers alike, the story highlights how Virat Kohli’s journey intertwines with his memorable performances at Adelaide Oval, underscoring his place among the greats of the game.
