India’s E&M industry to grow to $42.7 billion at double global growth rate

On December 5, a report released in New Delhi by LatestNewsX said that India’s entertainment and media sector is projected to rise from roughly $32.2 billion in 2024 to about $47.2 billion by 2029, growing at a compound annual rate of 7.8 %. This pace is almost twice the worldwide average of 4.2 %.

The upswing will come from wider digital engagement, a large young demographic, expanding broadband coverage, and deeper consumption of online content. These trends are reshaping how audiences engage with various media formats, opening fresh possibilities for platforms, advertisers and creators alike.

Internet advertising is expected to be the speediest segment, jumping from $6.25 billion in 2024 to $13.06 billion by 2029—an annual growth of 15.9 %. The shift is driven by mobile‑first consumption, region‑specific digital campaigns, and subscription‑based models.

Over‑the‑top streaming services are forecast to grow from $2.27 billion in 2024 to $3.47 billion in 2029, benefiting from local‑language content, direct‑to‑consumer approaches, and a swelled subscriber base.

“We are at an inflection point where technology—especially AI—is fundamentally redefining how content is created, discovered, monetised and experienced,” said Manpreet Singh Ahuja, Chief Clients and Alliances Officer at PwC India.

“AI‑led production pipelines, precision personalisation and immersive formats are putting value in motion across the entire entertainment and media landscape,” he added.

Gaming revenues—including mobile games, video games, and e‑sports—are expected to climb from $2.79 billion to $3.96 billion, thanks to more immersive experiences and improved in‑app monetisation.

Traditional media still holds steady: television is projected to grow from $13.97 billion in 2024 to $18.11 billion, while print is expected to rise from $3.5 billion to $4.2 billion at a 3.3 % CAGR.

Sports and live‑event revenue, currently between $4.6 billion and $5 billion in 2024, could expand to about $7.8 billion by 2029.
