India lost a key match against Australia on Thursday, giving the hosts a 2‑0 advantage in the three‑match ODI series. The defeat marks India’s first loss in Adelaide in 17 years.

India put up solid batting from Rohit Sharma, Shreyas Iyer and Axar Patel, but Australia’s bowlers and fielders punished the Colts. Australia chased 265 runs, dropping eight wickets. A few missed catches let the Australian side finish with a one‑step lead of two wickets and 22 balls to spare.

Copper Connolly shone for Australia, scoring an unbeaten 61 in the crucial game. The win came after Australia had taken the first match by seven wickets, sealing the series before the final game on Sunday.

Supporters of the Indian team were upset. Many turned to social media to vent. Various comments targeted team selection and head coach Gautam Gambhir, with users citing an ineffective bowling lineup, missed opportunities by Kuldeep Yadav, and the decision to remove Rohit Sharma from ODI captaincy. One user even called the series a “statement” and urged India to focus on key moments.

India’s next fixture is the final ODI at the iconic Sydney Cricket Ground on Saturday. After that, the Suryakumar Yadav‑led T20I side will play five 20‑over matches against the same Australian squad.
