Sardar Patel as PM would’ve prevented Pakistan, Article 370: Rajasthan Minister

Jaipur, Nov 24 (LatestNewsX) – Rajasthan’s Agriculture Minister Kirodi Lal Meena told reporters on Monday that had Vallabhbhai Patel become India’s first prime minister instead of Jawaharlal Nehru, the country would have stayed in one piece, with no Pakistan and no Article 370 to be added to the Constitution.

According to Meena, the current situation in Kashmir – now under Pakistani control – stems from decisions taken by Nehru. He added that Patel would have prevented the division of the country if he had held that office.

During a speech at the launch of the Jago Jago Ekta Padyatra in Ramganj Mandi, Meena recalled Sardar Patel’s 150th birth anniversary and noted that the BJP’s founder Sardar Shyama Prasad Mukherjee had left Nehru’s government when he opposed Article 370.

“It was PM Modi who finally abolished Article 370, giving true freedom and democracy to Kashmir,” he said, calling the move a major step toward complete national unity.

Meena went on to claim that the BJP entered power to serve the people rather than for its own benefit. “For us, the nation comes first—above caste, party, and everything else,” he added.

Against this backdrop, the minister criticized Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi for making “irresponsible” remarks, even about the army. He also highlighted a planned unveiling of a statue honoring a 1962 war martyr in Bhilwara, saying Congress had ignored this honor.

When discussing national security, Meena asserted that if anyone had dared to strike inside Pakistan, it would have been PM Narendra Modi. He argued that over Modi’s 11‑year tenure no major terrorist attacks occurred. He said the recent Red Fort incident shocked the country, but assured that Modi would pursue those responsible, no matter where they hide.

Meena accused the Congress of strangling democracy during the Emergency under former PM Indira Gandhi, remarking that those who once suppressed the press and imprisoned leaders now claim democracy is under threat.

He also alleged that scheduled castes and tribes are misled by misinformation suggesting Modi would abolish the Constitution. “Jawaharlal Nehru was the biggest opponent of Ambedkar,” he claimed, adding that the BJP has acted on the principle of Antyodaya to lift the poor.

In a tribute to tribal leader Birsa Munda on his 150th birth anniversary, Dilawar said Munda was a revolutionary whom the British feared. “Poisoning him at the age of 25 only proves his greatness,” the minister remarked.
