In the heart of New Delhi on Saturday, a massive cycling rally took place at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium to mark World Teachers Day. The event, called Fit India Sundays on Cycle – 43rd edition, was led by Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, who heads India’s Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports and Labour and Employment.
The rally was a nationwide movement. A press release said that more than 10,500 locations across India staged their own rides and activities at the same time. In the capital alone, over 1,000 people joined the ride—teachers, athletes, fitness influencers, and school kids—all pedaling together.
Key sports stars lit up the day. Olympic bronze‑medallist hockey player Abhishek Nain talked about how cycling fits into a healthy lifestyle and praised the growing popularity of the movement. Chess champion Tania Sachdev shared her admiration for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s push for sports as a national priority. Rising javelin star Sachin Yadav and Rohtash Chaudhary, known as the “Push‑up Man of India” and a Guinness World Record holder, also participated and talked to the crowd.
The stadium saw a lively mix of activities: a theatrical “nukkad natak” (street drama) honoring teachers, yoga sessions, skipping competitions, fitness games, and special zones for children. Dr. Shikha Gupta led a rope‑skipping session, while the Raahgiri Foundation and Fitspire helped organize the event.
During the rally, Mansukh Mandaviya called the cycling movement a “nationwide movement” that has turned millions of Indians into daily cyclists. He said that if each citizen spent just an hour a week cycling, India would get stronger, healthier, and more united—moving closer to a “Viksit Bharat” (developed India). He stressed that the bicycle is a simple tool that reminds us to stay balanced, both physically and in life.
The Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, along with the Cycling Federation of India (CFI), Yogasana Bharat, and MY Bharat, confirmed that the Fit India Sundays on Cycle has become one of the biggest fitness campaigns in the country. The New Delhi event also featured the launch of the official anthem for Fit India Sundays on Cycle, boosting the campaign’s national visibility.
Rohtash Chaudhary announced during the event that he plans to attempt another Guinness World Record for the most push‑ups in one hour while carrying a 60‑lb pack, on 2 November 2025 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi. He will also continue to champion the Fit India Movement as its brand ambassador.
Abhishek Nain added that the cycling event shows how health culture is spreading across India. “We’re not just seeing people on bikes,” he said. “India is adopting a culture of fitness.” This sentiment was echoed by the teachers and students who joined the ride, creating a heart‑warming scene of community and shared purpose.
The 43rd edition drew participants from many other venues nationwide, including the SAI NCOE in Guwahati, STC Rajnagaon in Chhattisgarh, SAI STC Kokrajhar, NSRC Lucknow, STC Jabalpur, and more. Events are held across state capitals, sports authority regional centers, and national excellence centers, ensuring the movement reaches every corner of the country.
In summary, the Fit India Sundays on Cycle on World Teachers Day showcased a vibrant, nationwide cycling campaign that brings together athletes, teachers, and the public. With leaders like Mansukh Mandaviya championing fitness, iconic sports figures promoting healthy living, and millions of people cycling across India, the movement continues to build a stronger, healthier nation.
