Royal Bhutan Temple in Bihar’s Rajgir formally consecrated; Union Minister Kiren Rijiju expresses gratitude to PM Tobgay

In a historic event in Rajgir, Bihar, the Royal Bhutan Temple was officially consecrated, strengthening India-Bhutan ties. The ceremony was led by His Holiness The Je Khenpo, a key spiritual leader from Bhutan, marking a special moment for both nations.
Union Minister Kiren Rijiju attended the event and thanked Bhutan’s Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay and India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi for their commitment to deepening the friendship between India and Bhutan. Rijiju shared on social media that this temple symbolizes the strong bond and mutual respect shared by the two countries.
The event brought together senior officials from both sides, including members of Bhutan’s Royal Family and Indian government representatives. Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay spoke about the temple’s importance, describing it as more than just a religious site. He said, “This temple is a symbol of trust, confidence, and genuine friendship between our countries.”
The ceremony paid tribute to Rajgir’s significance as a sacred Buddhist site, with speeches highlighting the spiritual and cultural connections. PM Tobgay emphasized the importance of having a Buddhist temple in Rajgir and Bodh Gaya, calling it deeply meaningful. He also praised the leadership of Bhutan’s Royal Family for making this project a reality, which has brought the two nations closer.
Built on land provided by India, the new temple is already being called a landmark in the Buddhist world. PM Tobgay described it as “the envy of the entire Buddhist world,” noting its impressive architecture and spiritual significance.
The event also highlighted Bhutan’s global contributions, such as its unique concept of Gross National Happiness and the development of Gelphu Mindfulness City, founded by Bhutan’s King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck. Union Minister Rijiju praised Bhutan’s peaceful philosophy and its positive impact worldwide.
The ceremony ended on a hopeful note, with leaders expressing gratitude and looking forward to continued cooperation. Rijiju said, “This temple is not just a place of worship; it’s a bridge connecting our peoples.”
Today, the Royal Bhutan Temple in Rajgir stands as a symbol of shared spiritual values, friendship, and the enduring bond between India and Bhutan.
