Arun Dhumal, the IPL chairman, had high praise for the Indian cricket team’s performance in the recent Asia Cup final against Pakistan. He called their play outstanding and said it proves they’re the top T20I side in the world right now.
“It’s easy to reach the top, but staying there for a long time? That’s the real challenge,” Dhumal told . “India held the No. 1 spot in T20Is and dominated the tournament by winning every match convincingly. I want to congratulate the whole Indian team for that. Special shoutout to Suryakumar Yadav and everyone who stepped up—they showed the world why they’re the best.”
When asked about the possibility of a future bilateral series between India and Pakistan, Dhumal was clear. “That’s up to the Government of India, and we won’t play one. The BCCI fully backs this decision because our country always comes first, and cricket second.”
Dhumal also downplayed the massive hype around India-Pakistan cricket matches. He feels it’s overblown these days, especially since Pakistan doesn’t have the star power it once did. “Back in the day, fans everywhere knew legends like Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, and Shoaib Akhtar,” he said. “But now? Ask any Indian to name 24 Pakistani players, and they might struggle. Matches against teams like England, New Zealand, or Australia are way more competitive anyway. Since Pakistan is our neighbor and relations can get tense, the media amps up the excitement.”
He wrapped up by boosting confidence in the Indian team’s depth. “We can beat any of the world’s top teams—not just with our backup squads, but our main lineup has a talent pool like no other. Even against strong opponents, we’ve shone. This makes us proud, and we should keep celebrating these players for their amazing work.”
