Former Cricketer Surinder Khanna doesn’t see Pakistan as a “threat”, cautions Abhishek about being dropped

Former Indian cricketer Surinder Khanna doesn’t view Pakistan as a major threat in their Asia Cup Super Fours clash. Instead, he wonders just how convincingly India will win—by how many runs or wickets—when the two rivals face off in Dubai on Sunday.

Off the field, plenty of drama has swirled around India-Pakistan cricket matches. But on it, India has held strong as the superior team. In their group stage showdown earlier, India crushed Pakistan by seven wickets. Pakistan’s batters struggled, finishing at 127 for nine after India’s bowlers tightened the screws. Skipper Suryakumar Yadav then fired up the chase with an unbeaten 47 off 39 balls, keeping India’s winning streak alive.

With the neighbors set to battle again in this high-stakes T20 cricket encounter, Khanna predicts an Indian victory. Still, he urges caution. “T20s can be unpredictable,” he told . “Unfortunately, I don’t see Pakistan as much of a threat. So, how many runs India will win or how many wickets it will win is the question. In the last 15-20 years, we’ve seen the quality of fast bowlers they have had—like Shaheen Afridi—and the rest are his spin-oriented attacks. So there have been a lot of changes in that. But they shouldn’t take any team lightly, especially when you play such rivals.”

India heads into the Super Fours with solid takeaways from the group stage. Young opener Abhishek Sharma has brought energy, scoring 30, 31, and 38 across three games. His quick starts have set a fiery tone. But Khanna warns that Sharma must turn those promising knocks into match-winning totals to stick around in the India team long-term.

“He’s a very exciting player, and his stroke play is very good on the new ball,” Khanna said. “The starts he’s getting—convert that into a big score. Because if you make a good 25-30 runs and don’t play big, you can’t stay there for long. Because if you keep good players out, you get a chance. So you have to play long innings. Whether he comes or not, it’s up to him.”
