Former India assistant coach Abhishek Nayar is eyeing the upcoming Test match at Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, where he believes young batter Yashasvi Jaiswal will top the scoring list. The second Test in the India‑West Indies series starts on Friday.
Jaiswal returned from England’s Anderson‑Tendulkar Trophy with 411 runs at 41.10, but he struggled in his first Test for India. He managed a modest 36, using his solid defence, but a critical cut shot cost him. Despite the setback, Nayar thinks Jaiswal is hungry for big scores after watching teammates accumulate runs. “Once he gets going, he is unstoppable,” Nayar said on JioHotstar. “He’s been watching others score and will come back for a huge innings.”
India already showed batting fire in the Ahmedabad opener, with KL Rahul, Dhruv Jurel and Ravindra Jadeja scoring centuries. Yet Sai Sudharsan still needs to prove himself. The 24‑year‑old earned his first Test cap in June at Headingley, where he scored 30 in his second innings but was dismissed cheaply by Zak Crawley. In the first Test against the West Indies, Sudharsan was shut out early for 7 runs.
Over his four Tests, Sudharsan has scored 147 runs at an average of 21, with a strike rate of 40.8. Nayar sees New Delhi’s pitch as the best chance for Sudharsan to hit high numbers. “The ground is a fast outfield and provides a batting‑friendly surface,” he added. “If he doesn’t score now, questions will arise, especially with Rishabh Pant’s return looming.”
The coaches say the second Test will decide whether Sudharsan can cement his place in the team. With India’s batting lineup hungry for runs, both Jaiswal and Sudharsan have a clear path ahead. Stay tuned as India battles West Indies for the series title.
