Former Pakistan cricketer Mohammad Yousuf has sparked massive outrage after using a derogatory term to insult India T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav. This ugly incident comes amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan, fueled by the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22, where Pakistan-backed militants killed 26 tourists.
Cricket fans were already on edge over the India-Pakistan clash at the Asia Cup in Dubai on Sunday. Despite calls to boycott the high-stakes match, it went ahead, but controversy exploded after India’s dominant 7-wicket win. Indian players skipped the traditional post-match handshake with their Pakistani rivals, leading Pakistan to boycott the presentation ceremony.
Things got even nastier when Yousuf’s comments during a live TV panel on Samaa TV went viral. As a guest expert, he was asked about India’s no-handshake decision. Instead of sticking to cricket talk, Yousuf took a cheap shot at Suryakumar Yadav, who smashed an unbeaten 47 to guide India to victory.
“India can’t escape their filmy world. Their captain, Suarkumar Yadav,” Yousuf sneered, deliberately mispronouncing the name in a mocking way. The anchor quickly corrected him: “It’s Suryakumar Yadav.” But Yousuf doubled down, repeating “Suarkumar Yadav” with a smirk, turning it into a clear slur.
Yousuf didn’t stop there. He accused India of cheating, saying, “India should be ashamed of the dirty methods they use to win matches—pressuring umpires and torturing referees to bend the rules.”
The handshake row has snowballed, with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) filing a formal complaint against match referee Andy Pycroft. They claim he broke ICC Code of Conduct rules and ignored the spirit of cricket. However, sources say the International Cricket Council (ICC) plans to reject Pakistan’s request outright.
This latest drama highlights the strained India-Pakistan relations spilling over into cricket, leaving fans divided and the sport’s unity in question.
