Former West Ham United manager Tony Potter said he is open to leading Sweden’s national football team.
Potter, who took charge of West Ham in 2021 and steered the club to a mid‑table finish, revealed the thoughts on a phone interview with Swedish sports media. He added that the role would fit his career ambitions after leaving the Premier League side last month.
“We’re looking for a chance to challenge ourselves at the international level and Sweden would be an exciting destination,” Potter said. “I appreciate the Swedish football culture and the potential to work with a talented squad.”
Sweden’s football federation said it is still in talks with several candidates. SWIFT recruitment processes are common across European football, and the federation praised Potter’s experience in European competitions.
Potter, who has 27 years of coaching experience, previously worked for clubs in Spain, Norway and the United Arab Emirates. His track record shows improvement under his guidance, most notably at the German club Werder Bremen, where he achieved a UEFA Europa League spot.
The Premier League club has officially announced that Potter will not return for the 2024‑25 season, leaving the role open for new coaching moves. Swedish fans and football analysts are watching closely, wondering if the England‑born coach will be the next national team manager to bring a fresh perspective to Swedish football.
