Mahreen Bhatia made headlines Thursday at the Jaypee Wishtown Golf Course in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, as she powered her way to a two‑shot lead on the Women’s Pro Golf Tour 2025.
After a flawless 5‑under 66 that featured an eagle on the 14th hole and four birdies on the back nine, Bhatia now sits at 8‑under 134 for the first two rounds of the 15th Leg. She has overtaken a field that includes Vani Kapoor, a five‑time winner of the 2025 season, and other rising stars.
The 14th hole, a par‑4, became Bhatia’s ticket to an eagle. She followed the 10th–12th holes with three straight birdies, then hit a par‑2 on 14 to jump two strokes ahead. She closed the round with a birdie on the 18th, finishing 5‑under on her back nine. On the front nine she went 8‑under with a bogey and eight pars, a more modest score.
A front‑loaded tournament saw the leaders early on the first nine, but a dramatic finish on the back nine gave Bhatia the edge. She shot 6‑under 29 on the last nine, adding to her overall 5‑under 66 for the day. The crowd saw plenty of action, with six players sharing a 3‑under lead midway through the round until Bhatia’s run.
Vani Kapoor, who is chasing a sixth title this year, finished 6‑under 136 with a 4‑under 67. She had a mix of birdies and bogeys—her turnaround on the back nine matched her steady play. Sneha Singh took third place, 4‑under 138 after a rough start that included a bogey. Jahanvi Bakshi, who shot a clean 3‑under 68, held fourth place.
Only four players scored under par for their first 36 holes. The cut dropped at 10‑over 152, allowing 24 players to advance to the final round. Big names such as Shweta Mansingh, Neha Tripathi, and Vidhatri Urs missed the cut, while amateurs Saanvi Somu and Kriti Chowhan tied for fifth.
The Jaypee Wishtown course was tougher on the second day, with just four under‑par rounds versus 10 on day one. It tested the field’s consistency and highlighted the skill of those who could keep their scores below the green flag.
Fans and fellow competitors alike will watch closely as the tournament progresses, with Bhatia’s electrifying performance giving her a comfortable cushion heading into the final stretch.
