Australia’s Grace Harris Reacts to Surprising World Cup Selection
In exciting cricket news, Australia all-rounder Grace Harris shared her surprise and happiness after being selected for the upcoming Women’s ODI World Cup. Harris, who last played an ODI match in March 2024, is now part of the Australian squad competing in India and Sri Lanka from September 30 to November 2.
Harris admitted she didn’t expect to make the team this time. “Honestly, it’s a cheeky surprise,” she said. “At the start of the year, I thought I probably wouldn’t make the World Cup team because I hadn’t been picked much in the Australian one-day side lately.”
She added, “There are other players who have performed well and could have secured their spots. So I wasn’t shocked if I wasn’t selected. But I must say, the World Cup selection was a really happy surprise for me.”
Australia’s squad is preparing to leave for India on Wednesday, where they will play a three-match ODI series against India’s Harmanpreet Kaur’s team before the big tournament. Harris feels confident about making an impact as a finisher in the middle-to-lower order if she gets the chance to play.
“I believe our one-day team is one of the strongest and most settled,” Harris said. “We’ve been dominant for the past couple of years, and we cover all the skills—from pace bowlers and spinners to top-order and middle-order batters. We even bat down to number eight.”
Harris also sees this as a great opportunity for her personal growth. “Training in India will be a valuable experience, and if I get an opportunity to play, I’ll make sure to grab it with both hands. I’d love to get a chance to play in a Women’s ODI World Cup match because I’ve been part of a World Cup before in New Zealand in 2022, but I didn’t get to play any games.”
Fans and cricket experts will be watching closely to see if Harris gets her chance on the big stage. With her determination and positive attitude, she’s ready to bring all her skills to the tournament and make her mark in women’s cricket.
