London – England’s fast bowler Harry Brook said he’s watching Australia’s captain Pat Cummins closely as the Ashes series approaches. Brook called Cummins an “exceptional bowler” who could give England a tough challenge if he comes on the field. He also pointed out that the possibility of Cummins missing the first Test might actually help England, giving the hosts a short‑term edge.
So far, Cricket Australia has not confirmed whether Cummins will sit out. Australian head coach Andrew McDonald updated that Cummins’ back injury, which has prevented him from bowling since July, is improving. McDonald said the pacer has been running again this month, and his likelihood of playing in Perth on November 21 looks higher.
Cummins won’t be able to bowl until his back feels better. He ran again only weeks before the opening Ashes Test, and his return will be watched closely by both sides. Brook echoed the excitement and nerves that come with a series as intense as the Ashes, and he compared the upcoming clash with a recent India tour that finished 2‑2.
“It’s a huge step,” Brook said. “I want to give my best in the Ashes, I’ve played 25 games for 25 days after that India series and that was the toughest thing I’ve done. If the Ashes is better, I’ll be thrilled.” He reminded his teammates to focus on the present and adapt to the local pitches, where he has less experience.
Brook can’t say he’s fully prepared for the challenges that the Australian side and the Perth ground will present. He added that he won’t chase many memories from the 2023 Ashes, hinting at fresh challenges in this series. The competition will test Brook’s ability even though it’s his second Ashes tour and his first time playing the venue where England has struggled with 13 losses in the last 15 Tests.
England’s starting lineup for the Ashes includes:
– Ben Stokes (captain)
– Jofra Archer, Gus Atkinson, Shoaib Bashir, Jacob Bethell, Harry Brook, Brydon Carse, Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Will Jacks, Ollie Pope, Matthew Potts, Joe Root, Jamie Smith, Josh Tongue, Mark Wood
The series promises high‑stakes cricket and a battle of momentum in the heart of England.
