Australia’s batting star Travis Head will skip the last two T20Is against India. The opener was pulled from the national squad to play for South Australia in the fourth round of the domestic Sheffield Shield, beginning next Monday. The move gives Head a chance to fine‑tune his game ahead of the upcoming Ashes series.
Head will face Tasmania in Hobart on November 10 in his first first‑class match since the July tour of the West Indies. While the Australian selectors let him decide whether to play shield cricket or the final two T20Is, Head chose the Shield game, joining wicket‑keeper Alex Carey for the match.
Head is the third player in Australia’s T20 squad to turn his focus to the five‑test Ashes. Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc followed the same path earlier in the series, leaving after the second match to join New South Wales for games against Victoria.
India has made a similar switch. Kuldeep Yadav was released from the India T20 squad to return home and play India A in a four‑day match against South Africa A, starting on Thursday. The Board of Control for Cricket in India said the move gives Kuldeep much-needed red‑ball experience before the two‑match test series with South Africa, which begins on November 14 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
Kuldeep had figures of 2‑45 in India’s defeat in the second T20I at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Washington Sundar replaced him in the final match at the Bellerive Oval, where India won by five wickets to level the series at 1‑1.
