Colombo, Oct 6 – 22‑year‑old Indian bowler Kranti Goud stayed on track, told reporters that she ignored the historic India‑Pakistan rivalry and stayed focused on her bowling plan. The result was a match‑winning spell and her second “Player of the Match” award in the women’s World Cup.
India made 247 in 50 overs, giving their bowlers a solid target. In the 43‑over chase, Pakistan were dismissed for 159. Kranti Goud’s figures were 10‑overs, 3 wickets for 20 runs, while teammate Deepti Sharma claimed 3‑45. India’s win is the 12th against Pakistan in the format and lifts the team to the top of the group table.
“This was my first match and I don’t really pay attention to the India‑Pakistan hype,” Goud said at the post‑match press conference. “I focus on my job – bowl and take wickets.”
Her debut at the R Premadasa Stadium in May was modest, but today she dominated. “Winning Player of the Match feels great,” she laughed. “It’s a proud moment for me and my family. I’ve earned the award twice in Sri Lanka now.”
India batted first and hit 247, putting pressure on Pakistan’s batters. They struggled with the pace and swing from both sides of the pitch. Goud explained that during her second spell she asked to keep a slip bowler in the attack, believing she could land a wicket. She did, taking the second wicket of the innings.
Key points for fans and followers: Kranti Goud’s sharp focus, India’s 247‑run innings, her 3‑20 bowling finish, Pakistan’s 159 total, and India’s lead at the top of the group in the Women’s World Cup.
