Bhubaneswar, India – The city is ready to host the 2025 ITTF‑ATTU Asian Table Tennis Team Championships, a hot‑ticket event that will run from October 11‑15. India’s top paddler Manav Thakkar, a former World No. 1 in the U‑18 and U‑21 categories, says the home crowd could spark another ringing win for Team India.

The championships feature only men’s and women’s team competitions. The stakes are high: the top 13 teams in each gender will qualify for the 2026 ITTF World Team Championships. That makes this meet a must‑watch for players and fans alike.

Speaking after a warm‑up session, Thakkar praised the local organization. “This is my third trip to Odisha – I’ve played in the Commonwealth Championships and the Senior Nationals before. Both times I left with medals, a bronze and a gold. I feel our momentum is strong and I hope we keep the streak going at the Asian Championships,” he said.

Thakkar added confidence to his words. “Team India is ready, and we have an edge playing in our own conditions. The crowd’s support gives us extra fire. I’ve earned bronze medals in past Asian titles, but I’m hoping this time we can step up to silver or even gold.” His world rankings sit at No. 39 in singles and No. 7 in doubles, and he has already won bronze at the Asian Games, bronze at the Asian Championships, and gold at the Commonwealth Championship in both team and doubles events.

He was especially impressed by Odisha’s sports infrastructure. “The indoor stadium I’ve seen is massive and truly world‑class. I heard the Sports Science Centre here is among the best in India, and I’m eager to visit. The campus is huge, and the accommodation and hospitality are top‑notch. It’s a pleasure to play in Odisha,” he said.

With the championships just a few days away, the buzz in Bhubaneswar is building. Fans and media alike expect a fine showcase of table‑tennis skill, and Indian players hope to cement their place among the continent’s elite. The 2025 Asian Team Championships, a key qualifier for the 2026 World Team Championships, promises action, excitement, and a chance for India to shine on home soil.
