Liverpool’s defender Trent Alexander‑Arnold will face a tough welcome at Anfield on Tuesday as his team hosts Real Madrid in the Champions League. The 27‑year‑old, who grew up in Liverpool and rose through the club’s academy, said any criticism can’t change his love for the club.
Alexander‑Arnold has won two Premier League titles, a Champions League trophy and a Club World Cup with Liverpool. He became a fan favorite, but in May he shocked many supporters by rejecting a contract extension to seek a “new challenge.” The decision sparked boos from some fans when he appeared at a game against Arsenal.
“I’ll always love Liverpool,” he told Amazon Prime. “No matter how I’m received, my feelings won’t change. I have memories there that will stay with me forever.” His comments come as Liverpool struggle in recent matches, losing six of their last eight games across all competitions.
Despite that rough patch, Alexander‑Arnold reminds everyone the Reds remain one of the world’s best teams. Real Madrid won’t underestimate them, he said, and the atmosphere at Anfield will make the match even harder for both sides. “It’s going to be a very difficult game,” he added. “Even though results are shaky, we’re still a top football club, and we’re not going to take this lightly.”
