Dubai – The International Cricket Council (ICC) has just unveiled its first ICC Women’s Cricket Week, a fresh global push to boost the visibility and participation of women’s cricket.
The week‑long celebration will run from 16 to 22 October, timed to line up with the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 in India. The ICC says the event will become an annual tradition, encouraging national boards to host local activities that bring the sport to audiences around the world.
“We’re excited to launch ICC Women’s Cricket Week,” said ICC Chairman Jay Shah. “This year has already shown what women’s cricket can do: record crowds, extraordinary performances, and a real surge of interest. The week is a chance for every member country – from full members to associate nations – to join the conversation and help shape the future of the game.”
The ICC’s Women’s Cricket Committee and its Chief Executives’ Committee backed the initiative earlier this year, signalling the board’s commitment to expanding opportunities for women at all levels.
Full‑member boards have already sketched out plans. The England and Wales Cricket Board will run community‑focused events that build excitement for the upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup 2026. Cricket South Africa will host a full‑day program at a high‑school stadium, featuring panel talks, mini‑matches, and a friendly game with former national players. New Zealand Cricket has set up a “Mini World Cup” to inspire girls starting out in the sport.
Associate members are taking a three‑pronged approach: they’re creating fan watch parties to raise awareness, launching educational courses for female coaches and teachers to address the shortage of women leaders, and organising local festivals and competitions under the ICC’s creciio programme.
The launch marks a key milestone in the ICC’s broader goal of building sustainable pathways for women’s cricket. With the Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 on the horizon, the new ICC Women’s Cricket Week aims to spark grassroots enthusiasm and deliver a lasting legacy for the women’s game worldwide.
