KL Rahul lit up the Ahmedabad Test against West Indies with a much-needed home century on Day 2, and he made it extra special by dedicating the milestone to his young daughter, Evaarah.
The Indian opener and his wife, Bollywood actress Athiya Shetty, welcomed little Evaarah into the world back on March 24 this year. After reaching his ton on Friday, Rahul shared that the moment meant the world to him as a new dad.
“It was for my daughter,” he said with a smile at stumps, explaining the sweet gesture behind his celebration.
Rahul returned to the top of the batting order after a strong tour of England, but he opened up about the nerves he felt heading into this series. He mentioned a recent practice match against Australia A that tested him more than expected. “I just played a game last week, and I was a bit nervous because I hadn’t been on the field for five or six weeks,” Rahul admitted. “Getting back into rhythm, spending time in the middle, and playing four-day and five-day cricket—it was a real physical challenge.”
The conditions in Ahmedabad added to the intensity, but Rahul credited that tough prep game for building his stamina. “That match was even harder on the body, but putting those miles in my legs made a big difference today,” he noted.
Looking back at his form, the elegant right-hander is soaking up the variety of challenges in his game. “Playing in England was a blast—scoring runs there boosted my confidence big time,” he said. “Coming into this Test with some momentum helped, and after that longer break, I feel fresher than ever. I’m just loving being back out there in the middle.”
This century boosts Rahul’s impressive tally to 632 runs across six Tests in the ongoing World Test Championship 2025-27 cycle, solidifying his spot as a cornerstone for India.
