India was re‑elected to lead the Asia‑Pacific group as vice‑chairperson of the International Convention against Doping in Sport’s Bureau for 2025‑2027. The decision came during COP10, the 10th Conference of Parties, which ran from October 20‑22 at UNESCO’s headquarters in Paris.
Azerbaijan won the chairperson role for the COP10 Bureau. Brazil, Zambia and Saudi Arabia were also chosen as vice‑chairs for their respective regional groups, giving the meeting a strong global mix of leaders.
COP10 marked the 20th anniversary of the Convention— the only legally binding treaty that pushes worldwide sports toward integrity and stops doping. More than 500 delegates from national governments, anti‑doping bodies, and UNESCO’s permanent delegations gathered to discuss the Convention’s future.
Key topics included:
* Strengthening governance and compliance.
* Funding the Fund for the Elimination of Doping in Sport.
* Tackling new challenges such as gene editing, traditional medicines, and ethical questions in sport.
India also helped run the session by setting up interactive boards that highlighted the Convention’s history and impact, showcasing its commitment to in‑kind support.
The COP9 Bureau’s report underscored the need for better institutional coordination, sharper communication, and deeper cross‑sector collaboration. In line with this, India pushed amendments to weave “Values Education through Sport” (VETS) into national programs, aiming to spread sport ethics and integrity among youth and clubs.
These decisions will shape the next round of reforms, tightening the Convention’s structure and making it more effective. The session ended with a joint affirmation by all States Parties to keep pushing for fairness and integrity in sport worldwide.
