India topped the medal table at the 4th South Asian Senior Athletics Championships 2025, held at the Birsa Munda Stadium in Ranchi from October 24‑26. The country captured 20 gold medals and a total of 58 medals, putting it well ahead of Sri Lanka, which finished next with 16 golds and 40 total medals. Nepal earned two silver and four bronze medals, while Bangladesh collected three bronze and the Maldives added a single bronze. Bhutan finished the event without a medal.
The final day burst with exciting performances and fresh meet records. In the men’s 400 m hurdles, India’s Ruchit Mori ran a new championship best of 50.10 seconds, taking gold ahead of Sri Lankan Kuda Liyanage Ayoma and Indian Karna Bag. The women’s 400 m hurdles saw Sri Lanka’s K.H. Arachchige Dasun set a record time of 58.66 seconds, earning gold over fellow Sri Lankan Aral Loku and India’s Olimba Steffi.
Sri Lanka also swept the javelin throws. Pathirage Rumes took gold on an 84.29‑meter pass, followed by Ranasinghe Jagat (Sri Lanka) and India’s Uttam Patil. In the women’s javelin, Sri Lankan Nadeeka Hatarabage threw 60.14 meters, smashing the old meet record of 51.70 meters set in 2008. India’s Karishma Sanil and Deepika earned silver and bronze.
India’s Mohd Sazid secured the men’s long‑jump title with a 7.68‑meter leap, while Reet Rathore anchored India’s women’s high‑jump gold with a 1.76‑meter clearance. In distance, India’s Abhishek ruled the men’s 10,000 m in 30:29.46, and Amandeep Kaur won the women’s 800 m in 2:04.66. Sri Lanka’s D.M. Harsha S. Karuna claimed men’s 800 m gold in 1:51.96.
Sri Lanka dominated the sprint event, winning the men’s 200 m in 23.58 seconds, with India’s Sakshi Chavan and Neeru Pathak taking silver and bronze. The 4×400 m relays added to the drama: Sri Lanka’s men’s team finished first with 3:05.12, narrowly ahead of India (3:05.38) and Bangladesh (3:15.00). In the women’s 4×400 m relay, India secured gold in 3:34.70, followed by Sri Lanka (3:35.71) and Bangladesh (3:55.63).
