On Dec 1 in Chengdu, LatestNewsX reported that China routed Egypt 8‑0, while South Korea snapped back to beat Chinese Taipei 8‑6 in the 2025 ITTF Mixed Team World Cup held here on Monday.
In their second group encounter, the Chinese team seemed relaxed. Kuai Man and Lin Shidong dispatched Egypt’s Badr Mostafa and Marwa Alhodaby in straight‑sets, 11‑3, 11‑3, 11‑7, in mixed doubles. Sun Yingsha, world No. 1, then edged Mariam Alhodaby 11‑4, 14‑12, 11‑4 in women’s singles. Men’s star Wang Chuqin beat Youssef Abdelaziz 11‑5, 11‑4.
South Korea faced a stern test against Chinese Taipei. Lin Yun‑ju and Cheng I‑ching took the opening mixed‑doubles match 12‑10, 11‑9, 11‑9 against Kim Na‑yeong and Park Gang‑hyeon. The Koreans then captured the women’s and men’s singles and women’s doubles to level the tie at 6‑6, as Xinhua reported. In the decisive fifth bout, Park and Oh Jun‑sung won 11‑9, 11‑9 over Lin and Kao Cheng‑jui.
Elsewhere on Monday, Hong Kong, China, thumped Chile 8‑2, and Japan edged India 8‑4. China will take on Chile on Tuesday.
The ITTF Mixed Team World Cup runs from Nov 30 to Dec 7 and follows a format distinct from other team events: it begins with mixed doubles, then women’s and men’s singles, and, if necessary, men’s and women’s doubles. The order of play is decided by the captain of the weaker side. Each team match comprises three games, yielding either a 3‑0 or 2‑1 outcome, and play continues until one side clinches eight game wins.
This competition was launched in 2023, and China has claimed the last two titles. With the mixed–team event set to appear at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games, teams are placing greater emphasis on this World Cup as a key Olympic prep event. Sixteen teams are split into four groups; China is in Group 1 with Hong Kong, Egypt, and Chile, and faces Egypt first.
