YSRCP slams Andhra govt over tribal school health crisis, demands Rs 10 lakh for bereaved families

Visakhapatnam, India – On Monday, leaders from the YSR Congress Party gathered at a local hospital to condemn the worsening health crisis at tribal schools in Parvathipuram district. The crisis began when two student girls, Anjali and Kalpana, died of jaundice after drinking contaminated water. More than 120 students are now hospitalized, and the party says the problem stems from broken RO (reverse‑osmosis) water plants, bad sanitation, and no basic facilities.
Former Deputy Chief Minister Pushpa Srivani, Araku MP Tanuja Rani, former MLA Rajanna Dora, and district council chair Mazji Chinna Srinu all called for accountability. “The government has failed us,” Srivani said. She pointed out that the RO systems installed under the YSRCP have not been maintained for months, forcing kids to drink unsafe water. “We need to stop covering up hostel deaths,” she added, noting that the administration has instead suspended local staff.
Other complaints included a lack of fans, mosquito nets, and unpaid sanitation workers. Srivani demanded 10 lakh rupees for each family that lost a child, while Tanuja Rani highlighted that 129 students are suffering severe jaundice from prolonged neglect. “Despite our repeated warnings, the coalition never provided safe water, proper meals, or medical camps,” Rani said on X (formerly Twitter). She also called out the Tribal Welfare Minister for only visiting schools after media pressure and for contradicting the public.
The YSR Congress Party claims that the coalition government, led by N. Chandrababu Naidu, is directly responsible for the tragedies. YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, the party’s president and former chief minister, blamed the broken RO plant at the Kurupam Girls Tribal Gurukul school for the outbreak. “Within just four days, two young girls died and many more fell ill,” Jagan told X. He reaffirmed that the government’s negligence caused the deaths and demanded urgent corrective action to protect the lives and dignity of tribal students.
The incident has raised fresh questions about how families, schools, and local officials keep children safe. Residents of Parvathipuram district now demand immediate government intervention, better infrastructure, and fair compensation. The YSR Congress Party’s call for accountability is likely to intensify pressure on the coalition government in the coming days.
