Guwahati, Nov 25 (LatestNewsX) — The Judicial Commission set up to probe the sudden death of singer Zubeen Garg has pushed its deadline for affidavits back by 21 days, making the new due date December 12.
The move gives more time for individuals, organisations and other parties that wish to submit statements to the panel.
The initial window for sworn affidavits closed on November 21. Because many were still pending and a growing number requested additional time, the commission decided to open another period to ensure all voices and evidence are properly considered.
Officials involved said the extension was granted to uphold fairness and transparency, as several groups cited logistical and procedural challenges that made it impossible to meet the earlier deadline.
With this extra time, the commission hopes to gather a more comprehensive set of affidavits that will help clarify the events and circumstances around Garg’s death.
The commission’s mandate is to conduct an independent and detailed review of the case, examining whether negligence, foul play or procedural failures contributed to what has been described as a shocking and tragic loss.
It will also scrutinise all documents, witness accounts and any other material evidence brought forward during the inquiry.
Zubeen Garg, a hugely popular figure in the region’s music and cultural scene, died under circumstances that sparked widespread concern and a demand for a thorough investigation.
The creation of the Judicial Commission was intended to address those concerns and restore public confidence through a transparent, accountable process.
With the new deadline set for December 12, the commission is expected to intensify its efforts to collect and assess all relevant information before moving to the next stage of the investigation.
Further steps—such as hearings and witness summons—are likely to follow once the affidavit submission phase concludes.
