The Indian junior men’s hockey team left Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport on Tuesday evening bound for the Sultan of Johor Cup in Johor, Malaysia. The 13th edition of the tournament will run from October 11 to 18, 2025, and India’s crew are ready to push beyond last year’s bronze medal finish.
India entered the competition after clinching a bronze medal in 2024, and the squad—made up of seasoned veterans and fresh talent—has set its sights on improving that result. The team sees the Cup as a chance to prove itself against the world’s best junior sides.
Their schedule is packed. India kicks off against Great Britain on October 11, then faces New Zealand the following day. After a Mid‑week break, they’ll play Pakistan on October 14, Australia on October 15, and the host nation Malaysia on October 17 during the final round‑robin fixture. The top two teams will progress to the final on October 18.
Before leaving, captain Rohit shared his excitement. He said, “We’re looking forward to competing at the Sultan of Johor Cup. It’s always special to play against top junior teams worldwide, and performing here is a matter of pride for us. Last year we returned with a bronze medal, but this time we want to beat that and fight for a place in the final. The atmosphere in the team is positive, and everyone is motivated to give their best for the country.”
Rohit added that the team has been training hard in Bengaluru, focusing on speed, structure, and finishing. “Our coaches have prepared us well, and we’ve built a strong sense of unity,” he said. “We know every match will be tough, but we’re ready to take on the challenge.” With a clear target to start strong against Great Britain and build momentum, the Indian junior men’s hockey squad is set to aim high at the Sultan of Johor Cup.
