The Indian junior women’s hockey team notched another victory on their Australia tour, beating local club Canberra Chill 3-1 in an exciting match at the National Hockey Centre in Canberra. This marks their second straight win Down Under, with standout goals from Ishika in the 13th and 39th minutes, and Sonam in the 27th.

The game started tough for India as Canberra Chill took an early lead just 11 minutes in, thanks to Naomi Evans’ penalty corner strike. But the young Indian squad quickly fought back—Ishika equalized two minutes later with her own penalty corner goal, tying things at 1-1.

The score stayed level as both teams pushed hard, but India grabbed the lead right before halftime when Sonam slotted in a sharp field goal to make it 2-1. In the third quarter, Ishika sealed her brace with another goal midway through, putting India up 3-1. From there, the visitors held firm on defense, securing the win against the spirited hosts.

So far on this Australia tour, India’s junior women have two wins and two losses under their belt. They’ll wrap up the trip with one more game against Canberra Chill on October 2, led by captain Jyoti Singh and coach Tushar Khandker.

These matches are key prep for the FIH Hockey Women’s Junior World Cup 2025, coming up in December in Santiago, Chile. The tour gives the rising stars plenty of international exposure, pitting them against tough opponents to sharpen their skills. Back in June, the team toured Europe and impressed with three straight wins over Belgium, a victory against Australia, and a close shootout loss to the Netherlands. With games like this, India’s junior women’s hockey squad is building momentum for the big stage.
