Chennai, Dec 4 (LatestNewsX) – Former world no. 10 in women’s squash, Joshna Chinappa, is looking to snatch revenge when she faces teenage top seed Anahat Singh in the final of HCL Squash Indian Tour 4. At the same time, Velavan Senthilkumar is the man to beat in the men’s event.
Chinappa, who was knocked out by Singh at the previous PSA Tour in Indore, came back after a hard-fought win over sixth‑seeded compatriot Tanvi Khanna (6‑11, 12‑10, 11‑1, 5‑11, 11‑5). Singh, meanwhile, dispatched South African third seed Hayley Ward (11‑8, 11‑6, 11‑6).
In the men’s bracket, top seed Senthilkumar edged French seventh seed Maceo Levy (13‑11, 11‑9, 5‑11, 11‑7) and will play unseeded Egyptian Adam Hawal for the title.
Earlier in the week, 39‑year‑old Chinappa, who captured the Japan Open in October and finished runner‑up at the Daly College Indian Open, staved off a five‑game battle against Egyptian second seed Nardine Garas on Wednesday. Four Indians made the last four in Chennai.
The reigning national champions – Senthilkumar for the men and Singh for the women – recorded straight‑games victories at the Indian Squash Academy, while second‑seeded Veer Chotrani was forced to exit.
World no. 46 Senthilkumar dismantled Sri Lankan Ravindu Laksiri (11‑7, 11‑8, 11‑7), and teenage Delhi star Anahat, ranked 29th globally, eased past Czech Tamara Holzbauerova (11‑7, 11‑7, 11‑7) in the pre‑quarterfinals after the top seeds received first‑round byes.
