Josh Inglis Out of Australia’s T20I Series Against New Zealand Due to Calf Injury
Australia’s cricket fans have some tough news: star wicketkeeper-batter Josh Inglis is sidelined for the upcoming three-match T20I series against New Zealand. He picked up a right calf strain during a training run in Perth earlier this week. Scans confirmed the issue, and Cricket Australia has ruled him out of the matches set for Mount Maunganui, starting October 1.
Stepping in for Inglis is experienced keeper Alex Carey, who’s joined the Australian T20 squad. Carey knows all about calf troubles himself—he suffered one last year while sub-fielding in the Boxing Day Test against India. That injury forced him to miss the rest of the Big Bash League season, but he bounced back for his Test debut against Sri Lanka in January.
Inglis plays a key role in Australia’s white-ball teams, and his absence means the selectors will rethink plans for the red-ball format too. He could back up Carey during the home Ashes series this summer. The good news? Doctors expect Inglis to recover in time for the ODI series against India, kicking off in Perth on October 19.
This isn’t the only blow for Australia’s T20I side. Inglis becomes the fourth player to miss out: captain Pat Cummins is resting due to lumbar bone stress, Cameron Green is staying home to build form through Sheffield Shield cricket ahead of the Ashes, and Nathan Ellis is unavailable as he awaits the birth of his first child.
The Australia vs New Zealand T20I series promises excitement, with all three games happening at Bay Oval. It gives both teams crucial prep time before the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka next year. Plus, it’s a special occasion—the series marks 20 years since the first-ever Men’s T20I between these trans-Tasman rivals back in 2005 at Eden Park in Auckland.
Here’s the updated Australia T20I squad for New Zealand:
Mitchell Marsh (c), Travis Head, Alex Carey, Matthew Short, Mitchell Owen, Marcus Stoinis, Glenn Maxwell, Tim David, Sean Abbott, Ben Dwarshuis, Xavier Bartlett, Adam Zampa, Josh Hazlewood, Matt Kuhnemann.
Cricket lovers, keep an eye on this rivalry—it’s always a thriller!
