International Series: Ormsby turns season around with play-off win over Vincent as Bhullar’s challenge falters in Jakarta

Jakarta, Oct 5 – Australian golfer Wade Ormsby clinched the Jakarta International Championship after out‑shooting Zimbabwe’s Scott Vincent in a sudden‑death playoff on the first hole. The win came at Damai Indah Golf – PIK Course, Sunday, and left Indian player Gaganjeet Bhullar out of title contention.
Ormsby, 45, entered the final round tied at –11 with Vincent, the recent Morocco champion, and 2023 BNI Indonesian Masters winner Bhullar. The three were neck‑and‑neck for most of the day. Bhullar slipped after the front nine, and two double‑bogeys on holes 15 and 18 sealed his fate. Vincent and Ormsby stayed in a tie, each finishing the round on –12.
The playoff nailed a simple par on the 18th. Vincent’s second shot found water, while Ormsby was on the green and hit a short, clean putt for victory. The Australian’s win is his fifth on the Asian Tour and his second International Series title.
Ormsby had a rough season, with a low finish of tied 21st at the DLF‑presented International Series India. He chalked up a single‑stroke penalty in the third round for accidentally moving his ball before addressing it, but he returned to form at Jakarta. “It was a bit of a grind,” he said, adding that he made nine straight pars on the back nine. “I hit a few great shots in that playoff hole, so that makes me feel better about the whole thing.”
Vincent, who won the International Series Morocco in July, was trying to become the first player to win back‑to‑back playoffs on the International Series. He finished runner‑up again, after a close finish last week at the Shinhan Donghae Open. “I don’t see this as disappointing,” Vincent said. “Wade played great golf; he hovered under pressure and deserved to win. I had my chances but golf isn’t always entirely in my control.”
Bhullar, the highest‑placed Indian, finished at –7 overall. Other Indian qualifiers were Viraj Madappa (three under) and Chikkarangappa S. (two over). Beyond Jakarta, the next International Series stop is the Philippines event on Oct 23‑26 at Sta. Elena Golf Club, Manila, followed by the Link Hong Kong Open and Moutai Singapore Open before the season‑ending Saudi International. The top player in the season‑long Rankings will earn a spot on LIV Golf next year.
