Geneva, Dec 11 (LatestNewsX) – On Wednesday, the International Olympic Committee’s Executive Board (EB) revealed that Asuncion in Paraguay, Bangkok in Thailand, and Santiago in Chile have been entered into a Targeted Dialogue to decide the host of the 2030 Youth Olympic Games (YOG). These three cities are viewed as the favored options, and the IOC has begun preliminary talks with them about shaping the YOG for the future.
“Kirsty Coventry, the IOC President, said in a video conference following the EB meeting that: “We need to have very clear clarity on what we want the Games (YOG) to be, how we want them to be produced, and really look at reshaping them so that they are fit for the future.” She added: “No decision has been made except for moving these three into Targeted Dialogue, and we are aiming to elect a host for the 2030 Youth Olympic Games in June 2026.”
Under the Fit for the Future review, the IOC’s YOG Working Group will continue to assess how forthcoming editions can best serve young athletes and the broader sports movement, working closely with stakeholders such as International Federations (IFs).
According to Xinhua, Coventry reported that the EB chose to put forward Soraya Aghaei Haji Agha—an Iranian badminton player and member of the IOC Athletes’ Commission—as a candidate for IOC membership. The EB also suggested re‑electing 11 younger IOC Members, extending the terms of two current members, changing the status of one member, and nominating two Honorary Members for the 145th IOC Session in Milan, Italy, scheduled for 31 January–2 February 2026.
“Soraya Aghaei will be nominated and put forward as an IOC member. We’re very excited about that,” Coventry said. “The Ethics Commission and the EB have proposed Ms Patricia O’Brien to chair the IOC Ethics Commission for a four‑year term. We proposed two other members to the IOC Ethics Commission, Mr Karl Stoss and Mr Kim Won‑Soo. We look forward to seeing that happen during the Session.”
