Vidarbha tightened their grip on the Irani Cup clash against Rest of India, pushing their lead to 224 runs by stumps on day three at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur.
Rest of India started the day shaky at 142 for five, chasing Vidarbha’s first-innings total of 342. Captain Rajat Patidar and Manav Suthar were at the crease, but Vidarbha’s Aditya Thakare struck early. He dismissed Suthar lbw on the very first ball, thanks to a successful review that flipped the umpire’s not-out decision.
Yash Thakur then turned up the heat, grabbing two quick wickets. He bowled Saransh Jain with a sharp yorker and saw Akash Deep caught at cover. Patidar fought hard, building on his overnight 42 to reach 66 with ten boundaries, but he fell trying to clear long-off off Harsh Dubey, becoming Rest of India’s ninth wicket.
Thakur wrapped things up by taking the final scalp, ending with strong figures of four for 66. Rest of India crumbled to 214 all out, handing Vidarbha a solid 128-run lead in the first innings.
In their second innings, Vidarbha’s openers Atharva Taide and Aman Mokhade got off to a promising start, adding 42 runs for the first wicket. But Taide fell to Manav Suthar, caught at deep midwicket. Mokhade followed soon after, snared behind for 37 while hooking Gurnoor Brar in the 24th over.
Dhruv Shorey and Danish Malewar then steadied the innings with a gritty partnership. They took Vidarbha to 96 for two in 36 overs by stumps, still with eight wickets in hand and that commanding 224-run advantage over Rest of India.
