Jaismine Lamboria bags gold at World Boxing Championships 2025; defeats Poland’s Szermeta Julia 4-1

Indian boxer Jaismine Lamboria struck gold at the World Boxing Championships 2025 in Liverpool, UK, on Saturday. In the women’s 57kg category, she outboxed Poland’s Julia Szermeta 4-1 to claim the top spot and become a world champion.

The match started strong for Szermeta, the Paris 2024 Olympic silver medallist. She fired off quick counter punches, cheered on by a loud crowd of Polish fans in the stands shouting “Julia!” But Jaismine turned the tide from the second round. Using her height to her advantage, she took control and dominated the fight, earning the judges’ nod with a solid 4-1 win.

“This feeling can’t be expressed—I’m so happy to be a world champion!” Jaismine shared with Olympics.com. She added that after her early exit at the Paris Olympics, she stepped back to sharpen her skills. “I improved my technique physically and mentally. This is the result of consistent hard work over a year.”

In another thrilling final, India’s Nupur settled for silver in the women’s 80kg+ category. She put up a tough fight against Poland’s Agata Kaczmarska but lost 3-2 in a split decision. Despite being shorter, Kaczmarska boxed smartly in close range and landed a knockout blow in the final seconds, with Polish fans erupting in joy.

Meanwhile, local hero Emily Asquith from the UK advanced to the women’s 80kg final after a stunning 4-1 win over India’s experienced Pooja Rani. Asquith dazzled with her striking skills, leaving Pooja to take home a bronze medal. Asquith will now fight for gold on Sunday.
