India’s cricket fans erupted in joy after their team snatched a thrilling five-wicket victory over rivals Pakistan in the Asia Cup final. This T20I triumph in Dubai marks India’s second T20 Asia Cup title and their ninth overall, counting the ODI versions.

Across cities like Delhi, Nagpur, and Mohali, supporters hit the streets, waving flags and cheering the India vs Pakistan showdown. One excited Delhi fan summed up the mood with a clever twist: “Pehle humne Sindoor lagaya tha aur ab Tilak lagaya hai.” That’s a nod to star performer Tilak Varma, whose unbeaten 69 off 53 balls steered the chase. From Mohali, another fan shared online: “I am thrilled as India won the #AsiaCupFinal.”

The match kept everyone on edge. India captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to bowl first. Pakistan got off to a strong start with an 84-run opening partnership. Sahibzada Farhan smashed 57 off 38 balls, including four fours and three sixes, while Fakhar Zaman added 46 off 35, with two fours and two sixes. They raced to 113/1 after 12.4 overs.

But India’s spinners turned the game. Kuldeep Yadav claimed 4 wickets for 30 runs, and Varun Chakravarthy grabbed 2 for 30 in the middle overs. Pakistan crumbled to 146 all out in 19.1 overs, with Jasprit Bumrah sealing the end by taking the last two wickets for 25 runs.

Chasing 147, India stumbled early, slumping to 20/3 after Faheem Ashraf’s burst of 3 wickets for 29. Enter Tilak Varma. He built a crucial 57-run stand with Sanju Samson, who scored 24 off 21 balls featuring two fours and a six. Then Shivam Dube joined the fun, blasting 33 off 22 balls with two fours and two sixes. Their partnership locked in the win for India.

In his Asia Cup debut, Rinku Singh faced just one ball and smashed the winning runs. What a way to cap off the nail-biting Asia Cup 2023 final!
