Tamil Nadu athletes dominated the final day of Kadal Kondattam, India’s top ocean sports festival, sweeping all medals in kitesurfing and sea swimming events in Tuticorin. This stellar performance added 12 more medals to their tally, building on the 21 they grabbed the day before and wrapping up the three-day extravaganza in style.
The action-packed Sunday spotlighted kitesurfing in the Men’s Open category, along with sea swimming races in Men’s and Women’s Open, plus the Sub-Junior levels. Winners not only took home shiny medals but also cash prizes, making the victories even sweeter.
Organized by Aqua Outback under the guidance of former National Kiteboarding Champion Arjun Motha, the festival got a big boost from Tamil Nadu Tourism and the state government. Held at the stunning Muthu Nagar beach in Tuticorin, it turned the coastal spot into a hub of excitement.
Beyond the races, the closing day buzzed with fun vibes. Local bands rocked the stage with live music, beach volleyball games kept the energy high, and traditional Silambam martial arts demos wowed the crowd. Food lovers feasted at stalls serving up authentic Tamil Nadu coastal dishes, drawing cheers from spectators.
### Kitesurfing Thrills
In kitesurfing, Karuppusamy stole the show with a powerhouse win in the Men’s Open. Murugesh nabbed second place, and Dylan Fernandez rounded out the podium in third. What’s cool? All three champs train at the Aqua Outback Academy, proving it’s a hotspot for grooming future ocean sports stars in Tamil Nadu.
### Sea Swimming Wins
The sea swimming events delivered edge-of-your-seat action. In the Men’s Open 200m race, F. Infant Franson powered to gold, with Vijay and Vishwanathan V.K. grabbing silver and bronze. Women shone too—D. Annie claimed the Women’s Open 200m top spot, followed by Vedika Sachin and K. Shrutika.
For the young guns in the Sub-Junior 100m, M. Shashanth led the pack to first, T. Kanish took second, and R. Kabilan secured third. These victories highlight the rising talent in Tamil Nadu’s sea swimming scene.
At the lively closing ceremony, Arjun Motha shared his pride. “Hats off to all the winners and participants who pushed through tough ocean conditions over three days,” he said. “Battling the waves isn’t easy, but their grit was inspiring. I’m thrilled my team pulled off this event, and a big thanks to Tamil Nadu Tourism, the government, and our sponsors. Festivals like Kadal Kondattam can spark new jobs in ocean adventure sports and help young athletes from Tamil Nadu and India make waves on the global stage.”
Kadal Kondattam 2025 was more than just competitions—it was a full-on celebration of Tamil Nadu’s coastal culture and lifestyle. Over the days, attendees enjoyed a Coastal Food Festival packed with local flavors, relaxing Sunset Yoga sessions, calisthenics and strength workshops, beach clean-up drives, and eye-opening ocean awareness talks. This mix of sport, fun, and eco-focus left everyone buzzing.
The event also aimed to boost Tuticorin’s local economy, create jobs through tourism, and rope in the fishing community for ocean sports. It championed ocean conservation and sustainable living along Tamil Nadu’s shores, making it a win for athletes and the environment alike.
