Bengaluru, Oct 26 – Karnataka’s 13‑year‑old tennis star Srishti Kiran won her first international junior title in Cabarete, Dominican Republic, taking the ITF J30 crown. She beat Venezuela’s top seed, Stephanie Pumar, 6‑2, 6‑2, and finished the tournament without dropping a set.
Srishti’s run began with a surprise 6‑2, 6‑3 win over Russia’s second seed, Arina Vansovich, in the pre‑quarterfinals. She then swept through the next two rounds in similar fashion before clinching the final in straight sets. “Winning my first international title in Cabarete feels truly special,” she said. “The field was very strong, with many players who have competed in major junior events.”
The 13‑year‑old praised her calm game and enjoyed the matches, noting that staying composed was key to beating top opponents on a challenging clay surface. “Adapting to clay wasn’t easy, but I settled in quickly and built confidence all week,” Srishti added.
She thanks her Florida‑based team at RPS Academy and the Karnataka State Lawn Tennis Association (KSLTA) for their unwavering support. “This win is an important step,” she said. “I’m motivated to keep improving, climb the rankings, and work toward my dream of playing in junior Grand Slams.”
Srishti’s triumph marks a milestone for Indian junior tennis. She will continue her campaign in another ITF J30 event in the Dominican Republic next week, looking to carry the momentum. The up‑and‑coming talent currently holds the No. 21 spot in India’s U‑14 girls’ ranking and remains unbeaten while representing the country at the ATF U‑12 Girls’ Team Championship in August 2023.
